The Writing Myth-Buster Strikes Again
I’m back again with another tip about Writing, but it’s more of a myth-buster.
As the woman with answers, I get asked many questions, but never more than since I wrote a book.
The number one question I hear from aspiring writers is: “When can I find time to write, Judi? I’m so busy!”
The “I don’t have time to write” struggle is real. But it’s not the time factor that’s holding you back.
It’s the misconception that you need HOURS AND HOURS of time to devote to writing.
To paraphrase the habits guru, James Clear, start small. Try to do 1% MORE than what you’ve done previously.
Start with 15 minutes a day, five days a week.
Write by hand while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee instead of scrolling through social media.
Set a timer and go. When 15 minutes are up, you can stop. Or you can keep going.
If you’ve tried that and it doesn’t work, here’s my other trick: schedule the time through your online scheduler, the same way clients and prospects do when they want to meet with you.
There’s something psychologically powerful about having that time on your calendar like a client appointment that keeps you more accountable.
Don’t think that’s you? Well, maybe you need a good, old-fashioned accountability buddy. In which case, you’re in the right place.
