The Very First Virtual Book Reading (and Fundraiser)
March marks National Reading Month, which has already been a BFD (Big Flippin’ Deal) to me as a life-long reader but holds special meaning this year, my first year as an author.
And today, March 2nd, marks another important day on the Harrington Family Calendar.
It’s Dr. Seuss’s Birthday!
Now, if you read Fuckery already, you know that My Mother, Mary H., loved all things Dr. Seuss and took her adoration of his work to epic heights by dressing as the Cat in the Hat.
(And if you didn’t know this, all I can say is, “We all need a hobby, and this was evidently hers.”)
You may also know that this marks my first year celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday without my mom. She left this earth for the Great Library in the Sky last June.
To mark this day in my Year of Firsts, I am honoring her and my dad (you know, the guy who impersonated God on talk radio in defense of the Red Sox?) by hosting a virtual book reading to benefit Comfort Zone Camp.
CZC provides free bereavement camps for kids ages 7 to 17 who have lost a parent or a sibling so they can grieve, heal, and grow.
As someone who lost her dad at a young age, the CZC mission speaks to me, and I’ve volunteered with them since 2021.
And while I’m navigating the waters of my newest grief, I’ll tell you it just feels right to throw them some love, and I’m asking you to do the same.
For a donation of $20, you’ll get to hear some stories from your own comfort zone: your couch, and help grieving children heal.
Zoom in with your beverage of choice, where you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll feel like your family isn’t so crazy after all.
But mostly, you’ll learn that while our loved ones may not be here on this earth, their stories are what keep them alive.
