Winter (Writing) is Coming
Now that PSL season and Thanksgiving are nearly in the rearview mirror, you know what that means.
Yes, the holidays are upon us, and at the risk of seeming like a Big Giant Grinch, that’s not where I’m going with this missive.
I’m thinking more like Jon Snow’s immortal quote from Game of Thrones,
"Winter is coming."
Please stop crying and stick with me here.
There is no one, and I mean NO ONE, who loathes winter more than me. Even though I've spent my entire life in New England, I've consistently found myself taken aback (read: weeping in a corner) when the initial chill or Nor'easter arrives.
But my dread of the season shifted a couple of years ago when I started writing my first book in the dark days of winter.
Granted, most of my winter writing was born of necessity because I had a deadline to meet. Yet, it truly changed my perspective on how to handle my least favorite time of year.
I now embrace winter as my “deep writing season.”
This year, I’m looking forward to winter because I know I’ll have the opportunity to snuggle up in my Comfy with a cup of cocoa and dive into writing The Next Book.
There's something enchanting about the crisp air and the sound of (more) rain tapping against the window. It's as if the universe is saying, "Stay in and write!"
Or, as one of my Scribe Sisters said to me, “I love writing in winter when I’m all emo and sh!t. It really carries me through.”
Winter Writing is also a great way to:
Escape the Holidaze: Let's face it; the holiday season can be a whirlwind of stress and chaos. Writing can be your refuge, your personal escape hatch to transport you to worlds of your creation, far, far away from the holiday madness.
Forge New Beginnings: As the year draws to a close, now is the perfect time to reflect on your writing goals and set new ones for the upcoming year. Start your next chapter (pun intended!) before the calendar flips to January.
Take it from a pro, in the quiet of winter, you can focus, dive deep into your thoughts, and let your creativity flourish. With fewer distractions and more opportunities for introspection, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish
I'm offering Discovery Calls for 1:1 writing coaching sessions. We'll work together to tailor a coaching plan that suits your needs and goals, and I'll be your trusty guide through your writing journey.
