Taking a Break is Good for the Soul
As a writing coach who excels at creating accountability that ignites writing momentum, it’s important that I continue to be real about my book-writing journey with you all.
If you’ve been hanging out here for a while, you may recall that I hit pause on my second book a few months back. If you’re new here, yes, that happened.
Unlike the first book, which had folks rolling with laughter, the second one's a real tearjerker, diving deep into the realm of grief. And since I am the primary audience for most of the writing, those tears were mostly mine. Hence, the need for a breather.
But I’ve recently picked up writing again after a detour into the land of writing about love. These writings revolve around love in many forms – romantic love, familial love, lost love — and are mostly essays that I’m pitching to some magazines. So far, no takers, but as my beloved writing teacher and friend, Rebecca Gold, reminds me, “They simply aren’t ready for your writing yet.” As soon as they are published, you’ll be the first to know.
Right now, I'm taking a different kind of break. As the second anniversary of my mom's passing approaches on June 30th, I've decided to honor her memory in a way that reflects her vibrant spirit: by setting off on a road trip to the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health. Given the close connection I have between yoga and writing, I believe this journey will breathe new life into my mind, body, and soul, helping me maintain momentum this summer and continue making strides on the second book.
P.S. Each writer follows their own unique process, and this is mine. If you're eager to discover yours and establish a writing routine that launches a project you've been yearning to start, there's still an opportunity to join me for personalized 1:1 writing coaching. To kick off the discussion, simply complete the form provided here.
P.S. In the meantime, if you haven’t already picked up a copy of my first book Fuckery: The Life and Times of A Legend (In Her Own Mind), you can snag an autographed copy here. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be asked to leave the living room during Jeopardy!
