The Professional Mirror Tells All

March is full of themes — International Women’s Day, March Madness, St. Patrick’s Day — and I love them all, but you know what I love more? Creating my own theme.

This month, the theme is LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is akin to having your digital business card at the world's largest networking event.

And the look of that business card is changing.

As the saying goes, "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." So buckle up, peanut butter cups, because this March, LinkedIn is unleashing a major update.

Consider this your friendly heads-up; neglecting this change could leave you with metaphorical spinach in your teeth.

In short, LinkedIn is overhauling profile layouts by moving your About section to the top. It's all about ensuring your professional story is front and center so people connecting with you know exactly who you are, what you do, and —most importantly — what’s in it for them.

Yes, spoiler alert: Your About You isn’t really about YOU; it’s about the reader. You have to frame your About section to show the reader why YOU are the one they need in their life.

Now, with all that in mind, I'm going to invite you to open up your LinkedIn Profile. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

Take a good look. Does it resonate with the professional image you want to project? Does it reflect the person you aspire to be in any networking room?

If so, GREAT!

But I’m willing to bet some serious cashola that many of you are saying things like, “Oh, wait! I don’t do that anymore!” or “My biggest money-making service isn’t listed!” or “Who even is this person?”

In that case, my name is Judi 411, and I am here to help with my LinkedIn Profile Makeover.
