Stepping into Spring

Spring has sprung! After a long, icy-cold winter, we're emerging from hibernation, not only from winter but from the pandemic.

As the days get longer, trees bud, and flowers bloom, we are flourishing alongside it all – stepping outside more on walks and hikes and enjoying the great outdoors again.

That is until seasonal allergies hit. Or, in a moment of renewed energy and enthusiasm, that old back injury reminds you exactly how much shoveling you did this season.

Fret not! It's possible to bring the body into balance with a combination of acupuncture and massage therapy.

But first, let's talk about what's going on around you.

Herbal Remedies for Seasonal Allergies

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) draws its wisdom from the natural world. Spring marks a time of renewal, where the wind element is in greater force in the environment and within us. Allergies and the headaches, sinus pain, and congestion that come with them are just some of the issues common to the spring months.

AcuBoston's approaches to managing and alleviating allergy symptoms include acupuncture treatments as well as:

  • Custom herbal teas address allergy symptoms and any underlying weaknesses. For example, someone who is always cold will enjoy a cinnamon or ginger-based tea. Adding magnolia flowers to the base will also clear your nasal passages.

  • Supplements: starting daily herbal supplements like Albizia stem bark, black cumin, and Chinese scullcap extracts have proven to provide long-term relief.

Get Moving (Again) with Bodywork

Spring marks change, and that means swapping out our winter boots for sneakers or running shoes for many of us. Whether you're introducing a morning stroll back into your routine or inspired by the upcoming Boston Marathon to take up running, you may find that doing too much too soon derails your plans.

At Boston Integrated Body, we offer therapeutic bodywork sessions that re-engage the body so you can return to activities you enjoy.

Our approach incorporates Anatomy Trains Structural Integration (ATSI), a form of advanced structural bodywork that realigns your skeletal framework and lengthens the connective tissues known as the fascial network.

Sessions can incorporate one or both of the following:

  • Advanced Orthopedic Manual Therapy for assessing and treating pain patterns, including low back pain, joint issues, hip pain, and shoulder/rotator cuff issues. We’ll also incorporate Activated Isolated Stretching, a powerful method to improve flexibility wherever you have specific challenges.

  • Anatomy Trains Structural Integration Sessions are a series of sessions, where each session builds on the last. Structural Integration addresses the fascia, or connective tissue, that supports and shapes all the body’s cellular tissues (muscle, bone, organ, vascular, and nerve). We assess posture and gait patterns to trace sources of mechanical stress and strain and resolve issues through a combination of hands-on work and specifically-targeted movement cues.

At Boston Integrated Body, we always begin with a comprehensive intake, assessments, and initial hands-on treatment to determine your body’s needs and how best to address them.

To learn more about ATSI and the type of bodywork options that best meet your needs, schedule an in-office consultation with Boston Integrated Body's co-founder, Joseph Welch, by phone at 857-719-7629 or email Joseph at bostonintegratedbody@gmail.com.
